Did you know that you can use frequent flier miles/loyalty program points for more than just free flights? Here are a few ways:
1. Cruises
United for example, allows you to book cruises using United points. I am actually accruing miles on United because I booked a cruise through United and paid for it.
2. Experiences
Starwood (I have the Starwood Amex) has a cool program called Starwood Moments. They have VIP tickets and access to events such to culinary, culture, music and sporting events. I have never personally used my points for moments but someone I know has and they said it was pretty cool. Who wouldn’t want to go backstage and meet Jennifer Lopez? 😃
3. Shopping
You can also use points to buy things – but in general I wouldn’t do that because you get such little value for the point. However, if you have a nominal amount of points that are going to expire go ahead and get something, better than have them go to waste.
4. Donate them
There are many charities (don’t forget or wounded veterans) that will take your donation of miles to benefit members of their cause. You will get the tax deduction of the value of those miles.
Most importantly don’t forget to always use a card with points – every little coffee adds up!
