Whether you travel or not, learning how to stack deals can pay off. I just recently started learning as much as possible about using credit cards and points to get more out of travel. I have had two fairly large purchases lately and I am very proud that I have applied what I learned about stacking.
Yesterday I was looking on the internet for a furniture purchase and remembered to look for the best deals. I like to use United Airlines Mileage Plus Shopping portal as I am trying to build up miles for a big international trip. You can check out Cashback Monitor or EVReward, both websites show which portals are offering the best deals.
I signed into the United Shopping Portal and saw that Kohl’s was offering 8points /$1 spent – not bad. Then I remembered that my husband has a Discover It card and they offer 5% cash back on certain categories each quarter. This quarter includes department stores (Kohl’s). I didn’t have a Kohl’s account so I signed up for one to get their bonuses.
So for a $1000 purchase that I would have made anyway – I got 8000 points on United Airlines, $50 back from Discover (and they double all cash back at end of first year) and triple points plus 20% off from Kohl’s.
YEAH for stacking! Now why aren’t you stacking?
